According to experts' calculations, if China's existing biomass energy resources are fully utilized, changing the customs of direct straw stove smoke cooking and coal heating in hundreds of millions of rural areas for thousands of years can add about 300 billion yuan in output value and provide about 60 million employment positions.
4. Conducive to Exerting Agriculture's Support Role for Energy and Alleviating Energy Supply Tensions
China's energy resource reserves are relatively rich in total amount, but per capita ownership is low. Per capita coal, oil and natural gas reserves are only 56.3%, 7.7% and 7.1% of the world average level. In recent years, with the rapid development of China's economy and society, energy demand has continued to grow, and the supply and demand contradiction has become increasingly prominent. In 2005, the total primary energy production was 2.06 billion tons of standard coal, energy consumption reached 2.23 billion tons of standard coal, and net oil imports were 140 million tons, with an external dependence rate exceeding 40%. 6. Conducive to Improving Farmers' Living and Production Conditions and Solidly Promoting the Construction of a Socialist New Countryside
China's rural economic and social development level is relatively low, infrastructure is backward, and environmental sanitation conditions are poor. More than 50% of rural households mainly use backward methods such as direct burning of straw and firewood for living energy, which affects the quality of life and physical health of farmers. Actively developing the biomass energy industry, increasing clean energy supply in rural areas, can gradually change the smoke-filled energy usage methods of rural areas for thousands of years, improve rural energy utilization efficiency, improve rural sanitation conditions and farmers' living and production conditions, and is a powerful helper for improving farmers' quality of life, lowering living costs, changing the backward appearance of rural areas, and building a socialist new countryside.
