The Fifth Abu Dhabi World Future Energy Summit and New Energy & Environmental Protection Exhibition (held annually) will soon be held from January 16 to 19 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre in the UAE. The summit is dedicated to providing a platform for the world to seek sustainable future energy solutions, where industry leaders, investors, scientists, experts, policymakers, and scholars gather to jointly explore the challenges posed by growing energy demand and climate change, seek practical and sustainable renewable energy solutions, and promote technological innovation and investment opportunities in renewable energy and environmental protection.
The organizer Reed Exhibitions revealed that over 43 Chinese companies will participate in the 2012 Abu Dhabi World Future Energy Summit and New Energy & Environmental Protection Exhibition. China will host a national pavilion for the first time to prominently showcase China's rapidly developing renewable energy market.
At this summit, CEOs of two multinational Chinese solar energy companies will deliver speeches: Shi Zhengrong, CEO of Suntech Power, the world's largest solar panel manufacturer, and Gao Jifan, Chairman and CEO of Trina Solar, a leading photovoltaic technology company.
China has committed to reducing carbon emissions per unit of GDP by 17% by 2015. According to China's "12th Five-Year Plan," the proportion of non-fossil energy production will reach 11.4% by 2015 and 15% by 2020.
To achieve this ambitious goal, China has formulated a series of regulations and economic stimulus policies, including feed-in tariff subsidies, China Development Bank loans, 200 billion dollars in clean technology, carbon emission reduction, and energy pricing reserve incentive funds. China plans to invest 473.1 billion dollars over the next five years to develop clean energy and will increase renewable energy capacity by 370 GW by 2020. At the same time, China is heavily investing in developing power grid transmission, striving to overcome capacity constraints, and promoting electricity transmission from resource-rich to resource-poor regions. In addition, the "12th Five-Year Plan" also encourages the development of hybrid and electric vehicles, charging facilities, and high-speed railways.
Very similar to Abu Dhabi's construction of Masdar City, a low-carbon, low-waste sustainable city, China will also build high-tech green cities to test new clean and renewable energy technologies.
China and the UAE share close and continuously developing good relations. The UAE has expanded and strengthened bilateral trade, two-way investment, and cooperation with China in infrastructure construction and renewable energy utilization. Masdar City has invested 25 million dollars in UPCC, a major Chinese wind power developer.
Chinese Ambassador to the UAE Gao Yusheng stated: "Traditionally, the UAE has been a key trade route between China and the Middle East. Now Abu Dhabi is paving the way for companies to participate in the Middle East region and the global emerging renewable energy industry. Through the Masdar project and the Abu Dhabi World Future Energy Summit, Abu Dhabi has made great efforts in clean technology and renewable energy. Companies look forward to expanding cooperation with the UAE in this important field."
Bilateral trade volume between the UAE and China now exceeds 25 billion dollars. Many leading Chinese companies will also participate in this Abu Dhabi World Future Energy Summit and New Energy & Environmental Protection Exhibition.
