On the afternoon of May 26, 2011, more than 140 mu of wheat in Hexia Village, Chengguan Township, Yiyang County was burned by a large fire. After the fire, nothing was left. More than a hundred affected farmers' hard work and expectations for more than half a year were instantly lost.
>In the morning of May 28, 2011, in Zhangwan Village, Longyan Township, Dengzhou City, due to straw burning, several large trees beside the village had their leaves completely scorched, and the wheat stubble was a piece of blackened scorched earth. Villager Zhang's 5 mu of poplar trees as thick as rice bowls all turned into "burning sticks". Not far from Zhangwan Village, in Lugang Village, Taoying Township, a villager's 4 mu of watermelons about to mature were burned black, and 3 mu of cotton seedlings were completely killed.
>In the morning of May 29, 2011, in Chenjiazhuang Village adjacent to Lugang Village, the sound of funeral firecrackers, mournful music, and heart-wrenching crying sounded. Chen, a villager in his 50s in the village, went to burn wheat stubble alone in the fields in the evening because his children were working away from home. Before he understood what was happening, a gust of wild wind rolled up the flames of the burning straw and surrounded him. Ultimately, the old man perished in the sea of fire.
>On the afternoon of June 6, 2011, wheat about to be harvested in Wuli Village, Chengguan Town, Tangyin County suddenly caught fire, and nearly 40 mu of wheat was burned to ashes. On the same afternoon, a large fire broke out in Zhaolou Village, Zhouji Township, Liangyuan District, Shangqiu City, and more than 200 mu of unharvested wheat fields were burned to scorched earth.
